The climbing rose (also known as a rambler) is a spectacular addition to any garden - its show of color is quite impressive. The climbing rose bush is a hardy variety that will do well in most gardens with little maintenance. Its versatility is very useful for gardeners and landscapers. It is not a true vine so it will need support, but that's an easy step in caring for this rose. The new shoots are often very pliable and will bend easily so you can weave them through a fence, trellis or archway.
For the first few years, you won't have to do much trimming at all with this rose. In fact, pruning this rose too much can result in fewer blooms. As the plant matures, you will simply trim the old canes that are no longer producing. Carefully, direct new canes so the plant grows in the shape and direction that you desire. You will need to be patient with the climber because sometimes it will take awhile for the plant to get established, but once it is - just sit back and enjoy your show of color and aroma.
Most climbing rose bushes are extremely fragrant, which is always pleasant to come home to. Often, you will be able to smell them from several feet away. There are multitudes of color to choose from so you won't have to compromise on your personal taste. Select a color that will go nicely with the existing colors in your garden. Check the USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map to determine your climate zone - this will allow you choose the right rose for your area.
I predict that the climbing rose will most likely become one of your favorites in the garden. Its continual blooms throughout the season will give you endless appreciation for this hardy plant. If you need to spruce up your garden - the climbing rose is a great solution.
